Tayara Tavares de Sousa
Meteorology student at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). My undergraduate research project analyzes rainfall extremes in the southern mesoregion of Santa Catarina and addresses topics such as climate change, extreme weather events, natural disasters, and their socio-environmental impacts. Throughout the research, I observed that these phenomena disproportionately affect the population, impacting those with lower economic power more severely and, in certain contexts, highlighting environmental racism. The lack of effective public policies contributes to this disparity, underscoring the importance of targeted interventions to protect the most vulnerable communities.
